It has been a while since I posted anything on the license reinstatement process and I wanted to update you on some questions that people have been asking a lot lately. The first question people are asking is should they fill out the out of state packet or should they come in to the State of Illinois for a license hearing. The answer to that is simple to me. If you are serious about clearing your license in Illinois and you live outside of Illinois currently, it is much easier and faster to perform the hearing in Illinois whether it be a formal or informal Secretary of State hearing. I have seen horror stories of people who come to me after waiting more than six months when they then receive a response from the out of state hearing unit telling them that they need a missing document or two. But oops, the documents that the person submitted are now invalid too because they only last for 6 months. What a disaster. The process runs much more smoothly when we do the hearing in person. Response times are now at around 45-60 days for most of my clients after both a formal and informal hearing.
I will provide some more updates on getting your license reinstated after a DUI in my next blog but if you have any questions at all regarding anything to do with Illinois license reinstatement, you should never hesitate to call the office at anytime.
