As a license reinstatement lawyer in Illinois, many people ask me who live out of state if they need to come back to Illinois to get their license cleared. In my opinion, the short answer is yes. Many clients who retained me have complained that they tried to obtain her license back from Illinois through the out-of-state hearing written packet. Later, these clients were denied for one reason or another which is why they came to me to get the license cleared. My answer to them is that they should be prepared to come to the state for at least one and possibly two days to wrap up their treatment and to have a formal administrative hearing.
Being a drivers license lawyer in Illinois, I have had many successful cases in my history of helping people get their license back. However, 99% of those cases when people came in to the state of Illinois and actually performed the formal hearing in person as opposed to going with the out-of-state hearing packet.
