In one of my last blogs I spoke about the three different types of license reinstatement clients I represent in Illinois after being convicted of a driving under the influence of alcohol offense. While many of my clients come to me while they still live in Illinois, many of my clients live outside of Illinois in California, Wisconsin, Indiana or even Texas and New York. These clients typically had a license in Illinois at one time and were found guilty of a DUI in another state which resulted in the Illinois Secretary of State revoking their driving privileges.
The question for these clients typically is whether or not to submit the out of state hearing packet on their own or whether they should contact a license reinstatement lawyer in Illinois to assist them with the process. I have an easy answer to that question. Contact a drivers license lawyer who knows the process and can guide you through the hearing step by step until you have a successful result and are legal to drive in your current state.
Typically, my clients who live outside of Illinois need a lot of help getting the proper treatment documents to get ready for the hearing. I guide them through this process until they have all of the proper paperwork and they understand each and every question they will be asked at the hearing when it occurs.
Mailing in an out of state packet without being properly prepared can cause problems if you are denied by the Secretary of State. I have found it much better to prepare my clients for an one day hearing so the likelihood of success at the hearing is enhanced.
