How long does it take from start to finish to get a license reinstated in Illinois and should you use a lawyer to help you with that process?
While it depends on the person, it typically takes between 1-4 months to get fully prepared for a formal or informal administrative hearing in Illinois. The client needs to be prepared to answer questions ranging from, “What time were you arrested?” to “Are you a problematic drinker?” I always tell my clients that this is not like a test in high school where 80% right gets you a passing grade. The Secretary of State in Illinois is very strict when it comes to reinstatement of a person's license. Any more than 2 questions wrong and the Sec State will almost certainly deny your request for reinstatement. So yes, it is important to hire a lawyer to help you because we know the questions you will be asked and we can prepare you to answer those questions truthfully.
