As an Illinois license reinstatement lawyer for more than 15 years, I have represented hundreds and hundreds of clients at both formal and informal hearings before the Secretary of State after they were revoked for a DUI conviction. Many people question the timeline for obtaining their driving privileges after an informal hearing.
I want to be very clear that while my success rate at both formal and informal hearings is well above 90% for first time hearings, it is important to know that you do not receive the response from the Secretary of State as to the results of your hearing on the actual day of your hearing. After you have your hearing, whether it be an informal or a formal hearing, the officer who performed the hearing needs to write up his or her opinions and then that opinion get sent down to Springfield where they review it. By law they have 90 days to give you an answer but what I have found in my experience is that it typically takes approximately 35 days for the results to come back to my clients.
Therefore, just because you have your hearing a week after you retain your lawyer, does not mean that you will have your license back in the same week. The process takes time and if you need help feel free to contact license reinstatement lawyer John W Callahan and I can answer any of your questions at any point about reinstating your drivers license after a DUI conviction.
