As an Illinois License Reinstatement Lawyer for the past 20 years, John W. Callahan has seen a drastic increase in the number of fraud hearings by the Secretary of State. What I mean by fraud hearings is if you have been contacted by the Illinois Secretary of State, indicating that you driver's license has been cancelled due to a suspected fraud or due to a duplicate ID with different identifiers such as birth date, name, address, etc., you are going to need some help. This is a complex process that you should not undertake on your own. The first thing that I advise my clients to do is to come into our office and sort out all of their records, including Birth Certificates, Marriage Certificates, any identification cards and Social Security cards that they have in their possession. This is for the next step of the process, which is to meet with the Illinois Secretary of State Police on Roosevelt Road so that we can coordinate with them what the proper ID that you would like to move forward with in Illinois is in the future. While this is scary, I have never had a client actually get arrested when we went to the Illinois Secretary of State Police. This is because they are trying to get proper information so that we can move forward in the future and clear your license up and get you driving on one single ID card/driver's license.
After you meet with the Illinois Secretary of State Police, there is a long delay until the Springfield office of the Illinois Secretary of State Police will consolidate the IDs and records that they have to the one proper record that we submitted at the Lombard Illinois Secretary of State Police Office.
Once everything is consolidated, at that point the Secretary of State will suspend the new driver's license that they issued, and you will be eligible for an informal hearing based on hardship with the suspension immediately. However, for full reinstatement you do need to obtain a formal administrative hearing with the Secretary of State and we have the experience in doing 100s and 100s of license reinstatement formal administrative hearings with the Secretary of State.
So, if you find yourself being afraid of what to do after the Secretary of State Fraud Division contacts you or cancels your license, you should contact the experienced License Reinstatement Lawyers of John W. Callahan, Ltd., immediately to discuss your case for a no-fee consultation.
