As a license reinstatement lawyer in Illinois, I help dozens of people every month or so get their license back. The first hearing, if the client is required to do a formal administrative hearing, typically results in a restricted driving permit being granted. Once my clients get their restricted driving permit, they often ask how long after receiving the restricted driving permit before they get their license back. More than 95% of the time a person who has been granted a permit from the Secretary of State after a successful hearing will only need to drive on the permit for one year.
I typically tell my clients to begin preparing for the full reinstatement hearing after they have been driving on the restricted drivers permit for six months. You are eligible to have a full reinstatement hearing 90 days before the restricted drivers permit expires. This means that you want to apply between 45-60 days before the three-month eligibility date kicks in.
If you any questions about how to get a restricted drivers permit or you need assistance clearing your license in Illinois, feel free to contact me at anytime.
