Client from Georgia Granted on First Try from illinois - January 2024
January 2024
This was an out-of-state client who had two DUI arrests from the same year around 2009. On the first DUI the client avoided a conviction, but on the second DUI, which happened in Georgia, the client blew a .081 and was convicted. The conviction was sent over to the Illinois Secretary of State, and his license was revoked. First, my office obtained all of the records from his DUI in Illinois
as well as the DUI in Georgia. This took approximately two weeks. Second, I referred the client to an alcohol evaluator in Illinois who performed what is called a treatment needs assessment and waiver of further treatment so the client did not need to perform any additional treatment even though his most recent DUI was 15 years ago. The third step involved my office preparing a license reinstatement worksheet for the client to memorize with every question and every answer that the he would face at the hearing. We practiced over and over and the client was fully prepared and was granted full reinstatement of his driving privileges in Illinois in January 2024. Because he was an out-of-state petitioner, he only needed to do two things once Illinois granted him. He had to file an affidavit of SR-22 insurance which basically told the Secretary of State that because he currently lives outside of Illinois he doesn't need that type of insurance. Next, he paid the reinstatement fees to the Secretary of State and was able to get his Georgia license in short order.
